E&E Concludes Comprehensive Air Sampling in Tontitown

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (E&E)
concluded comprehensive air sampling in Tontitown, Ark. May 11, 2025. CTEH, a third-party
contractor, selected by E&E through a formal request for proposal process in accordance with
state procurement law, conducted the testing. This 11-day air sampling event included two
weekends.

For this testing event, CTEH field technicians placed canisters that sampled the air over a 24-hour
period in the Tontitown community and tracked real-time conditions, such as wind and
temperature, using a weather station. An odor complaint hotline was available for community
members to report odor complaints in the area and a field team responded and collected air
samples and/or conducted real-time air monitoring and odor surveys at the location of the odor
complaint in near real time. The complaint hotline is now closed.

This sampling event tested for analytes detected in previous air sampling including benzene,
acrolein, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, and naphthalene. Within 90 days of receiving all final,
validated analytical sampling results, CTEH will prepare a draft final report for the study, with
feedback from the Arkansas Department of Health.

E&E will update the Tontitown community information page with the final report when it is
available.
