NORTH LITTLE ROCK— The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (E&E) extended its
congratulations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on achieving 100 significant
environmental actions in its first 100 days. This ambitious undertaking demonstrates a strong
commitment to protecting and improving the environment across the nation.
Among the notable accomplishments, E&E specifically applauds the EPA Region 6 finalization of
the Arkansas 2022 Section 303(d) list of water bodies not meeting water quality standards.
“The quality of Arkansas’ waters is vital to our state’s ecological integrity and the well-being of
our communities. The 2022 Section 303(d) list is a crucial tool in our long-term efforts to protect
this precious resource. It allows us to identify impairments and develop strategies that will ensure
the quality of our waterways for generations to come,” said Shane Khoury, E&E Secretary.
“Arkansas’ comprehensive assessment of water quality is fundamental to sound environmental
stewardship and allows us to move forward with precision, ensuring that our efforts are focused
where they are needed most to achieve meaningful and lasting improvements. We commend
EPA Region 6 for prioritizing this important work.”
The completion of the 2022 Section 303(d) list is a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to
safeguard Arkansas’ valuable water resources. E&E looks forward to continued collaboration with
the EPA and other stakeholders to implement effective solutions based on this assessment.
