Oil & Gas Commission

On April 29, 2025, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas preliminarily enjoined enforcement of Oil and Gas Commission Rule K, codified at 15 CAR § 275-901 et seq., and its enabling act, Act 174 of 2024. Until further order of the court, the Commission will not be taking any action under Act 174 or Rule K, including accepting applications or complaints regarding digital asset mining businesses pursuant to those provisions. Notice of the order is available here.

If the situation changes, the Commission website will be updated accordingly.

Who We Are

The primary focus of the Oil & Gas Commission (OGC) is to prevent waste and encourage the conservation of Arkansas’s oil, natural gas, and brine resources.

The OGC serves Arkansans by providing a scientific and technically-based regulatory framework to support economic development while respecting the environment and Arkansas’s natural resources—its fresh air, abundant water, and varying landscapes.

Alan York

Director, Oil & Gas Commission

"We serve the citizens of Arkansas and the regulated community with an efficient and scientifically-based regulatory framework. The Oil & Gas Commission (OGC) issues permits to drill, operate, produce, and plug wells. OGC also issues permits for seismic operations for exploration of oil and natural gas; regulates the gathering, handling, and transportation of exploration and production fluids; and regulates natural gas pipelines."
