Two primary focuses for OSG are geological mapping and geologic hazards. Geological mapping—conducted by OSG’s geologists—is important to individuals and entities who want to know about their land’s physical structure and composition. Earthquakes and landslides are just two examples of the geologic-hazard work conducted by OSG. OSG is also proud to serve as a resource to schools and professional groups who want to learn more about Arkansas’s geology.
"Our office provides geologic data to the public, private industry, academia, and government agencies—from municipal to federal. We conduct research and maintain geologic map coverage of Arkansas to promote safe and responsible development of the state's mineral, water, and fossil fuel resources; support modernization of infrastructure; protect the public from geologic hazards such as earthquakes and flooding; and encourage the wise use of natural resources for tourism and recreation."
