NORTH LITTLE ROCK— The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (E&E), Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has announced its E-Waste Competitive Grants Program and is now accepting applications through Sept. 1 for a variety of e-waste recycling projects and needs.
“E-waste and lithium batteries are potential contributors to landfill fires across our state when disposed of in landfills instead of recycled,” said interim Chief Administrator of Environment and DEQ Director Bailey Taylor. “Through this program, DEQ is excited to provide this funding opportunity to help communities, companies, and organizations divert these electronics from landfills and potentially give these products a second life.”
The E-Waste Competitive Grants Program, established by Arkansas Code Annotated § 25-34-101 et al, assists regional solid waste management boards, cities, counties, schools, nonprofit organizations, and others with funding for projects to divert computers and other electronics from landfills in the state. Nearly $250,000 will be available through a competitive grant process and those awarded will be announced Nov. 1, 2024.
Applicants may apply in one of three categories:
- Category One: Collection, Transportation, and Processing
- Category Two: Local or Statewide Recycling, and Demanufacturing
- Category Three: Innovative Recycling, Donation, Demanufacturing or Disposal
